Scouting report
Rented her Menlo Park garage to Google’s founders in 1998, became employee sixteen, built AdSense into the business that funded the free web, argued for buying YouTube in 2006, and ran it from 2014 to 2023. The open thread runs through the codecs: Google released VP8 and VP9 royalty-free, then AV1 through the Alliance for Open Media. She died in 2024.
Curator’s note
Ran the platform, and quietly made its file format free for everyone else.
