Scouting report
Turned Dmitriy Zaporozhets’ side project into a company in 2012 and took it public in 2021, running one of the few genuinely successful open core businesses: the community edition stays free and self-hostable while the enterprise tiers pay the bills. GitLab has been all-remote from the start and publishes its entire internal handbook in public.
Curator’s note
Runs the company with the doors off, and it is a public company.
