Scouting report

Co-created Apache Kafka at LinkedIn to solve the company’s own data-pipeline mess, wrote The Log, the essay that taught a generation of engineers to think of state as a replayable stream, and left in 2014 to found Confluent around it. Kafka is now infrastructure at most large companies, and Confluent went public in 2021.

Curator’s note

Wrote the thing, then had to work out how to keep the lights on around it.
