Co-founded GitHub in 2008 and was CEO through the period when it became the default home of open source, largely by making the pull request a social object rather than a mailing-list patch. The company was bootstrapped for four years, ran on a famously flat structure that later came apart, and sold to Microsoft for $7.5 billion in 2018.
