Scouting report
Spent twenty-five years at Texas Instruments, then founded TSMC in 1987 on a proposition nobody had tried: a chip factory that designs nothing of its own and therefore never competes with its customers. That decision is why a company can exist with brilliant chip designers and no fab, which is to say why Nvidia, AMD and Apple Silicon exist in their current form.
Curator’s note
Changed the shape of an entire industry by choosing what not to build.
