A former English teacher who founded Alibaba in his Hangzhou apartment in 1999, beat eBay in China with Taobao, and solved the trust problem with an escrow payment system that became Alipay. Alibaba’s 2014 New York listing raised about $25 billion, the largest IPO in history at the time. Dubbo and RocketMQ are Apache projects that came out of the company.
