At Xerox PARC she developed Smalltalk-80 with Alan Kay and Dan Ingalls and wrote the books that let anyone else learn it. She objected to demonstrating it to Steve Jobs and was overruled by management; the Macintosh interface followed. Smalltalk is where object-oriented programming and the modern IDE both actually come from.

Told PARC not to show Jobs the demo. She was right.
