Scouting report

Co-founded Apple in 1976, was forced out in 1985, founded NeXT, bought Pixar, and returned in 1997 to a company close to insolvency. What came back with him mattered technically as well as commercially: NeXTSTEP became macOS and iOS, putting a BSD-derived Unix under hundreds of millions of consumer machines, and Apple’s KHTML fork became WebKit. The iPhone reset what a computer is.

Curator’s note

Ran the most valuable company on earth on taste, and got away with it.
