Scouting report
Joined Intel at eighteen, led the design of the 80486 and became the company’s first CTO, then ran VMware from 2012 through its Kubernetes pivot, then returned as Intel’s CEO in 2021 to attempt the hardest turnaround in the industry: rebuilding leading-edge manufacturing against TSMC. He left in 2024 with that unfinished.
Curator’s note
The engineer’s engineer handed the hardest job in semiconductors, twenty years late.
